Whether your a first time buyer on a budget or your home is in serious need of decoration, there are many ways to live in a stylish environment on a budget. We’ve all heard about someone who completely furnished their  living space by winning auctions on ebay and if that’s what it takes, you will certainly save a fortune. Beds, sofa’s and dining tables don’t come cheap so spend wisely, get inspiration from google images and pinterest and create a mood board of looks and don’t be tempted to buy things that don’t fit with your theme just because they are cheap. 1. White or Magnolia paint comes in larger pots and works out much more cost effective than buying  colours.

Aphabet Cusions £10 each at Marks and Spencer.

2. Add accents of colour to pale painted rooms with cushions, throws, pictures etc. In bathrooms inject colour with towels and bath mats. 3. Get creative with second hand furniture by repainting or staining. Check out tutorials online or on youtube.  Pine mirrors and pictures can be bought bang up to date by having their frames painted or sprayed silver, black or whatever colour may fit your theme.

Pineapple lamp also available in black and teal was £40 now £28 at House of Fraser.

4. Lamps create ambience and will use far less electricity than a light fitting containing three or more light bulbs. 5. Let colours flow through your entire living area to give your home a feeling of space. If you have pale coloured walls throughout and want a grey themed sitting room, maybe think about a grey sofa with green cushions and use the same colour green as an accent colour in another room. 6. Buying a second hand Ikea sofa that has seen better days? Check out ebay for replacement covers. 7. Search ebay by area for furniture or white goods to cut down on transportation costs. 8. Get creative with artwork. Turn canvasses into chalkboards with chalkboard paint for less than £5 from Wilkinsons. 9. Bedding works out cheaper when you buy a “bed in a bag”.  I once saw a very stylish fashion blogger buy one from Sainsburys! 10. Flowers and scented candles add a touch of luxury to any interior. Pick up reduced flowers in the supermarket and stock up on scented candles at sale time.

11. Get a designer headboard for a fraction of the cost with some MDF, foam, staple gun and fabric of your choice. Find out more here.

Alternatively cover an old existing one like I did above for my daughters room with a headboard about to be thrown out by my Mother in law.

12. Cover an old chest in the same way. See here.
