Money, Money, Money And How To Keep In Control

If one of your new years resolutions is to keep on top of your spending, a great way to do this is to keep a daily money diary. Note everything you spend on a daily basis and after a few weeks you will easily be able to see where your money is going and make adjustments accordingly.

Set a budget for everything and stick to it.  Clothes, food, holidays etc shop around for the best deals, take advantage of sales or mid season discount codes to get money off.

It is so easy to go overdrawn, I know I’ve done it many times and shuddered at the charges on my bank statement the following month and of course you still have to pay the direct debit that was refused first time round, and the bank decided to charge you for the pleasure!  If this resonates with you, how about making a note in your shiny new 2014 diary which days of the month your direct debits actually come out? Grab an old bank statement but bear in mind direct debits rarely come out on a weekend, it is usually the Monday after.  If you get paid on the 25th of each month for example, how about changing all your direct debits to the last day of the month. Alternatively open a separate account just for household bills but whatever you do, never let the bank charge you for anything ever again!
